Interest in Braddell Heights
Noted people are interested in Braddell Heights, one of Singapore older private estate with a rich history.
My whole long post on the history and street names of Braddell Heights Private Estate (Kelvin Tan 5 Oct 2008) was repeated in another blog on a Sommerville Regency (Freehold Cluster House in Singapore at Lorong Selangat) on January 15, 2009
see http://pchua-sr.blogspot.com/
Interesting to note that Sommerville Regency (at Lorong Selangat, off Sommerville Road) is named after as Sommerville Regency and not Selangat Regency. I suppose it sounds smoother and a English origin name may rhyme better than a Malay origin name for Regency. A lot of European names are used nowadays. In fact along Sommerville Road there are the Arcacia and the D'Almira - both European names.
Braddell Heights Estate with a predominance of Chinese residents has both English (British) and Malay street names and flavour. So it fits new housing projects to adopt either European or Malay sounding names. However it seems that European names rather than Chinese or Malay are more in vogue. The expatriate Ang Mohs are also increasingly seen in and around the Estate.

Braddell Heights Estate Upgrading
According to a report on announcement by Braddell Heights MP Seah Kian Peng at a community event on 1 November "Braddell Heights Estate to undergo Private Estate Upgrading" by May Wong, Channel NewsAsia (2 November 2008) and also a 3 hour briefing by Mr Seah and committee to residents on a Saturday in Braddell Heights CC October 2008, Braddell Heights Estate in Serangoon will soon receive new recreational facilities.
The upgrading work will start early January and is scheduled to be completed by 2010. Under the government's Private Estate Upgrading Programme, the area will see its existing park enlarged. Residents can also look forward to the creation of a new park. The upgrading list includes covered drains to create pedestrian pathway, widened roadways, more trees, estate signages and rain shelters.
Three of the five MRT stations of the new Circle Line are within the estate. They are the Bartley, Serangoon and Lorong Chuan stations. Phase One of the Circle Line will start operating by June next year. A shopping mall will also be built on the land above the Serangoon MRT station.
With 3 MRT stations serving the Estate and one of the first few private Estate to receive upgrading, Braddell Heights Estate at the heart of Singapore population density centre, criss-crossed by the North East and Circle MRT Lines, is coming a choice location for private residence in Singapore.
